When you decide to child proof your home, you have many choices. Your child's safety is the #1 priority, but you must also consider convenience, aesthetics, and budget. That's why we offer a unique child proofing program called Layers of Protection.  The Layers of Protection plan allows you to child proof to the extent you are comfortable, while ensuring you are getting the maximum protection for your child.

Level 1 - Basic Protection
These are the basic safety items every home should have, regardless if children are present with a definite emphasis on fire safety.
A-B-C Fire Extinguishers - minimum of one per level
Smoke Detectors - same
Carbon Monoxide Detectors - same, especially near fireplaces, kitchen, and sleeping quarters
First Aid Kit
Fire Escape Ladder
- if home is taller than one story

Layer 2 - The Super Safe Six
These six hazards are common to most homes and pose an extremely high risk of serious injury or death.  This is ground zero.  If nothing else, these hazards require safety solutions in every home with small children.  The Super Safe Six is also the foundation for which additional layers of protection may be added.
Hazard                                                            Solution
Electrical Outlets                                              Outlet covers and safety plates
Cabinets and Drawers                                      Automatic locking latches
Stairways                                                        Permanent gates - top and bottom
Window Treatment Cords                                Cord winders and shorteners
Doorways                                                       Latches and one-piece door stops
Furniture                                                         Safety straps and corner guards

Layer 3 - Safe "Yes" Zones
These are rooms or areas where children spend a great deal of time and generally include their bedrooms, playrooms, and family rooms.  Safe "Yes" Zones should be highly protected to help make them a safe environment for kids to play, explore, and just be kids.  Will help foster healthy development and encourage natural curiosity.

Level 4 - Danger Zones
Includes Kitchens, Bathrooms, Garage and Stairways, statistically the most dangerous areas in a home.  If these areas cannot be avoided they require a high degree of protection.  Even so, should be "Off Limits" for play and exploration.  About 70% of all household accidents occur in Danger Zones.

Level 5 - Roaming Limits
This layer of protection helps create a safer environment within the child's roaming limits.  This can include master and sibling bedrooms, hallways, finished basements, and exterior decks.

We make the world a safer place for kids - one room at a time.
